Honest politician — isn’t that an oxymoron?

One response to “Honest politician — isn’t that an oxymoron?

  1. Zorba says:

Hahahahahaha! Yes, it’s an oxymoron, even for libertarians (or the Green Party, for that matter).
While I like a lot of what Johnson’s platform says (he’s for a woman’s right to choose, gay marriage, reducing the size of the military and stop being the world’s policeman, legalize and tax marijuana, stop snooping on private citizens, etc), some of his stances are not so great.
Total “school choice” and school competition are what we are already moving towards, and if you have read the many posts I’ve made on the problems with this, you should know that it isn’t the way we should be going. School choice sounds great in theory, but the schools also get a choice in students. What happens to kids with learning and behavior problems? The disabled? The English Language learners? Nobody wants them in a total “school choice” environment. They are difficult to teach, and cost more. (Total disclosure here: I am a retired special education teacher, and I used to teach very disabled kids: intellectually, physically, emotionally, and behaviorally disabled. The types of kids that charter and private, voucher schools don’t want to deal with.)
Not to mention that he wants to “reform entitlements” (which I’m thinking means Social Security and Medicare cuts, or even elimination- pardon me, but they are not “entitlements” -we have been paying into these our entire working lives), and he wants to eliminate taxes on income and replace them with taxes on consumption, which tends to be very regressive and hurts the poorer people way more than the wealthy.
And, oh yes, he wants to go back to “free market” health care. Not that the ACA doesn’t have a whole lot of problems, but the “free market” is, simply put, a total shitstorm when it comes to health care. We need universal health care. Period.
Oh, I could go on and on all day. I think I’ll just shut up now. Maybe it’s almost time for a pre-dinner cocktail. šŸ»
