KIPP charter schools and the behavior modification of…teachers

on July 24, 2015

Seattle Education

“The No-Nonsense Nurturer Program has transformed the lives of thousands of students by transforming the practices of their teachers… It is simply a must-learn set of new skills for every teacher in America.”

Dave Levin
Co-Founder, KIPP Schools

Remember that quote while you read this edushyster post:

“I Am Not Tom Brady”

Why are urban teachers being trained to be robots?

By Amy Berard
*Give him a warning,* said the voice through the earpiece I was wearing. I did Tom Bradyas instructed, speaking in the emotionless monotone I’d been coached to use. Yes, it certainly is, and it makes me glad that I’m retired. I feel so sorry for the younger teachers.
      And if anyone thinks that this is only going on in KIPP charter schools, just wait, I’m sure that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will throw enough money around that a lot of states will implement this in their public schools.
      It will be attractive economically for the states. After all, if the teachers are so rigidly programmed, if they are given scripts to follow strictly, if they teach only to the test, then it’s certainly cheaper to hire young, inexperienced, non-educators, pay them crap, get rid of them after a few years, and hire a bunch of new ones.
      It’s certainly not only cheaper than paying experienced teachers, it is much, much cheaper than spending the money necessary to actually do something about addressing the root causes of poverty and income inequality, helping and supporting families in poverty, fixing blighted neighborhoods, making sure that schools are fully supplied and safe, etc, etc, and so forth.
      {{Sigh}}
      It’s crap, all right. 😦
