Consider that nearly 50 million Americans are unable to afford enough food to remain healthy. On any given night, somewhere around 7 million Americans go to bed hungry, a million of those children. In the “greatest” country in the world.
Hunger in the US could be eliminated if we just decided to have one less Nimitz class aircraft carrier in our naval fleet, (I mean, do we really need ten when the next nation’s most number of comparable aircraft carriers is one?), and instead used the money that would be used to create and operate that carrier to address hunger. We could even put a serious dent in the world hunger problem with that kind of money.
Ultimately, world-wide, this comes down to population control and responsible family planning… which is sorely lacking throughout much of the world. Governments the world over need to address it, and stop ignoring the problem and hoping it will just magically go away. We need to start trying to find diplomatic ways to get countries to reduce military spending, and use that money on working to feed and house their population instead.

But without the starving masses, how will the 0.01% know they’ve won?
