You’re probably familiar with the endangered mountain gorillas of Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park, thanks to Dian Fossey and “Gorillas in the Mist”. Well, after decades of being picked off by poachers, something new has been added. Although adult apes are usually strong enough to extricate themselves from poacher traps, young ones aren’t. To solve that problem, young apes are learning to cooperate together and destroy traps.
If that’s not good news, I don’t know what is…

Wonderful! Good for them!
Maybe we should arm them, so they could take direct action against the poachers.
Or maybe we don’t need to. They seem to be very smart and learn well. Perhaps they’ll come up with their own weapons to use against the poachers……..
We can only hope.
