
Now that Facebook has bought Instagram, the big question is: will this help or hurt them? Some experts are saying that Facebook laid out a billion dollars, not to get more people, but to have more oomph! when they go public. Others are saying that was a bad idea.
Personally, I’m thinking that this could backfire on both fronts. Instead of gaining more customers, both Facebook and Instagram may lose the ones they have. Yes, Instagram is popular, but knowing that your smartphone may automatically upload all your photos and post them (and all the geographic data that comes with them) on your Facebook page may cause some people to decide to leave both behind. I mean, do you want everyone in the world to know everywhere you’ve been and when you’ve been there? That would be a great tool for police — you know, in case there was a crime in the area…
